Description: East Grand Rapids is known for being the former home of Gerald Ford, the 38th president of the United States. East Grand Rapids may be better known as the home home to Reeds Lake. This all sports Michigan lake consists of 265 beautiful acres of surface waters with reported depths up to fifty feet. This mostly developed lake is the home to many of West Michigan’s prominent citizens. The shores are lined with waterfront homes of doctors, lawyers, business owners. The 4 mile walk around the lake provides a great route for exercise to frequent walkers, joggers and bicyclers . On the west side of the lake you three main attractions. The first being the Grand Rapids Yacht Club established in 1931. The second is the John Collins Park, a wonderful lakefront location that is very poplar with it’s winding lakefront path, benches, fishing docks and a busy public boat launch. Every summer in mid-June the park is home to the Clothesline Art Festival, a juried art show with over 130 fine artists from all over the country. The third attraction is Rose’s Restaurant. Located directly on Reeds Lake providing diners with an opportunity to breath in the fresh lake air and watch the sailboats while enjoying Rose’s delicious food. Food always tastes better when you eat outside. Rose’s is on the site of the former Romana Park, a popular amusement park closed in the early 1900’s. Reeds Lake like many of the other Michigan Lakes is one of the reasons, so many people call Michigan home. By the way, fishermen often report catches of Bluegill, Crappie, Perch, Northern Pike and Large Mouth Bass. |
