Lake Margrethe is located in Grayling Township in Crawford County. This Michigan lake consists of 1306 acres of surface waters with reported depths of 65 feet. Part of Lake Margrethe is within Camp Grayling, the largest National Guard training camp in the nation (147,000 acres).   Fisherman as well as off duty soldiers report catches of Small and Largemouth Bass, Rock Bass, Perch and Walleye.

There are two public access sites on the lake. The first one being on the West side of the lake, just off Portage Creek Rd, consists of a hard surface ramp, toilets and parking for 50 cars. 

The second one is located on the South side of the lake, just off Sharon Rd, this site consits of a hard surface ramp, toliets and parking for 50 cars.

At one time Lake Margrethe was known as Portage Lake.

Lake Margrethe: Camp Grayling             “It took us longer to get here than planned, but we are safe. Rained yesterday but the sun is shining now. The lake is very nice, hope to go out in a boat later, have never been in a boat you know. We hope to be back home next Tuesday. Love Jean”
